Attend Open House & Tour of the School – The first step for prospective families is to attend an Open House and tour the school. This step provides you with an opportunity to receive an overview of the school program and time to ask questions to get a sense of the general atmosphere of the school.
Observation – Another important, but not necessarily mandatory step is a classroom observation. Parents can begin to understand more about the differences between a Montessori learning environment and a conventional learning environment by spending 15 to 30 minutes in the classroom.
The Application – Parents are required to submit an application and $65 application fee before the child’s visit is scheduled.
School Records – If your child is coming from another school, it is important to sign a release for us to review your child’s record, so we may determine where your child should be best placed. We will request your child’s record after your child has had their school visit at our school.
Classroom Visit – Children at any age can visit the classroom. Pre-Primary (2.0 to 3.2) and younger children will be invited to come either for 15 minutes during the morning work cycle or at the close of school with their parent(s) to meet the Teacher and explore the classroom. Primary (3.2 – 5.9) children come to visit, with or without their parents in the classroom for one work cycle and this might include a playground visit as well.
Admission Screenings – We are having your child visit to get a better picture of his/her cognitive, language, motor and social development for their age. We recognize some children are very cautious in unfamiliar settings and need a bit longer to warm up or a second visit to be more comfortable. If we observe your child showing tendencies toward discomfort, we will gladly schedule a second visit to help your child make this transition so we may see a more realistic picture of him/her.
The Family Interview – After all these steps have been taken and the admissions team has collected all the necessary information, we will schedule a meeting with all of the adults who are integral in the “parenting” of the child and with the academic director. This meeting gives everyone an opportunity to get to know one another more and to ask any other questions that might be helpful in making a decision that the placement is a good fit for the family and school.
